Brian Sanderholm wanted Justin Thurber, murdered and raped Brian's 19 year old daughter, to be sentenced to the death penalty. Brian says,"I believe in an eye for an eye. If you do the crime, you need to have justice. In the end , it's up to the jury , but all that matters is that he can't hurt anyone again. Legislators in Kansas say the price of justice is too high, and they wanted to take the death penalty off books. "Jodi Sanderholdm was last seen alive in January 5,2007, at dance practice in Arkansas City, Kansas." She was a member of the Cowley College Tigarettes Danceline. Her body was found four days later bruised and battered in a pile of brush. "Because of the downturn in the national economy, we are facing one of the largest budget deficits in our history," state Sen. Carolyn McGinn, a Republican, said in an opinion piece posted on TheKansan.com Friday. "What is certain is we are all going to have to look at new and creative ways to fund state and community programs and services." They also said that they would save more than $500,000 per case by not doing the death penalty.
In my opinion, I think that the death penalty should not be in place anymore. It would be better to just lock this guy in prison for life and save a lot more money. On top of that, there is a huge economy crisis right now so first thing anybody wants is more money. $500,000 per case is a lot of money. Just two cases equal $1,000,000. With that much money, you could do more like prevention programs and counseling and other future benefits. Overall, I think that as much as Mr. Sanderholm wants Justin Thurber to have his life ended, it's better that he sticks around and suffer in prison.
