This dog spent 19 days alone in below zero temperature with no food or water! It miracoulously survived though but on the downside, it went from 20 pounds to 9 pounds. He was starving and dehydrated and his death bed could have been reality in the van of his owner. The owner was from Quebec, who went to Burlington, VT international airport over Christmas and New years. It is now recovering, and is rapidly gaining weight and becoming healthy. Animal control officer Susan Powers said, "It was a miracle he was still alive. We don't quite understand how in the world he was still living. The two vets who cared for him don't understand either, how a dog could live for that long. We know many dogs who have died in far less time than that. He's a little guy with a good, strong spirit." The owner is identified as 50 year old Pascal Bellon of Frelighsburg, Quebec . He got a $100 fine for it.
In my opinion, I think this man should have deserved more than a $100 fine. This is animal cruelty, I mean 19 days is a ridiclously long time. If any human were stuck in a car for 19 days in the freezing cold with no water or food. They'd probably be dead or in extremely bad state. And putting a 20 pound mini poodle in a car for that long and somehow living, is beyond belief. That man should get $500 because this is no joke. I think that they should have layed it down on Mr. Bellon a little harder. Overall, this should never happen again and if it does with anybody else, there should be more serious actions.
